Stuart Sherriff's End-to-End Ride
In May 2005 69 year old Stuart Sherriff, a lifelong Rugby RCC member, rode the traditional end-to-end cycle ride, starting at Lands End and finishing at John O'Groats 14 days later. On Day 1, with a strong tail wind he covered 90 miles, but for the next 13 days he had a headwind, cutting his average to 70 miles per day. The official picture shows him at the finishing post on May 19th. He did the entire ride alone, experiencing no mechanical (or physical) problems, finding B&B accommodation as he went and carrying all his equipment. Earlier he had first driven to a friend's in Newcastle where he left his car (and dog) and then took the train to Lands End with his bike. After finishing the ride at John O'Groats he travelled South by train to Newcastle, before driving back to Rugby. Those who know Stuart will not be surprised by this example of careful planning since Stuart organised three Rugby RCC Club Dinners at Rugby Lions!
This raises the question - is Stuart the only club member to have achieved the end-to-end feat? If anyone knows of another rider to do this whilst being a club member we would be pleased to hear from you. Until then, perhaps Stuart has set a new club record!
