Results for 24th June 2009 - Course: K11/10B Braunston

Roadworks next to Braunston marina meant we had to start at the bottom of the hill, much to riders' disappointment. The result was a shorter course of 8.5 miles, although preferable to canceling the event altogether. With James Heaton sidelined with a viral infection it seemed a foregone conclusion that Hywel Davies would have a comfortable win, but in the end it was only by 4 seconds from the improving Tim Hastie. Similarly Russell Morris missed out on third place by only one second from Colin Stiles. Although it was a warm, sunny evening a strong crosswind caused a few problems and most riders found it hard, despite the reduced distance. Taking advantage of a near flat course octogenarian Ken Rushall finished inside 27 minutes, while Sean Conway, riding a new bike, put it to good use in topping the handicap list. When we return to this venue in 3 weeks time we must remember to occupy the car park spaces at the far end from the pub - the Manageress was not pleased that we gave the impression the place was full with an adverse effect on trade. This is our best HQ and it would be a pity to lose it.
