Results for 16th July 2008 - Course: K11/10B Braunston

Roadworks seem to appear quite unexpectedly, so why were we surprised to find they had decided to resurface almost 4 miles of a perfectly good stretch of the A45? We're told it had failed the "brake test" - if that's the case so would most of the A-roads in Britain! With the loose chippings still in evidence from the activity earlier in the day it was another tricky decision as to whether the event took place. Most riders were prepared to give it a try, but the road surface slowed riders for two thirds of the course, canceling out the advantage of the Braunston Hill effect. James Heaton equalled his 20-40 winning time from three weeks ago on this course, followed by Hywel Davies, still recovering from an Iron-Man event at the weekend, a minute and 26 seconds behind. There were PBs for Stuart Sykes and Kenny Robinson (who dead-heated), Wendy and Russell Morris, Amrit Singh and Dave Pettifor. It was a welcome return for Lawrence Webster after a 2 year layoff following an accident. On a positive note, Mike Bloom's modified start and finish locations have made a big improvement, so this course looks like getting the vote for future seasons.
