1500 houses next to Grandborough?
A message to local cyclists from one of the leaders of the protest movement
Dear Cyclist,
You may have heard of the Rugby Draft Local Plan. The Local plan is to designate
future preferred development sites in the Rugby area. A recent change to the
Draft Plan was the removal of a 1500 home site at Walsgrave (Binley Woods Ward),
together with a new local employment site, and replacing it with a 1500 home
site at Lodge Farm CV23 8AH in the Grandborough Parish (Leam Valley Ward) off
the A45. This is to meet a Coventry housing shortfall. Obviously the local communities
are pretty upset about this proposal and we need your help to defeat it.
There are information evenings at Braunston Village Hall on Tues 20th Sept and
Dunchurch Village Hall on Weds 28th Sept. 7.30pm. There is a protest rally at
11am 1/10/16 at Tollgate Farm, CV23 8AH Grandborough turn A45. It would be spectacular
if loads of cyclists turned up to make your protest too!! We are hoping to get
500-1000 people to turn up. TV and Radio and the Rugby Advertiser should be
there..... bring everyone you can think of..... an hour of your Saturday morning
would help us enormously..... it would give you loads of brownie points with
locals and they may even be nicer to cyclists on the lanes as they will owe
you.... I do know some car drivers can be arrogant and impatient.... I ride
a bike too.
The proposed Lodge Farm Garden Village is completely unsustainable
and it contravenes many parts of the Governments own publication The National
Planning Policy Framework, particularly referenced to paragraphs 30,34,35,37,52,75,95
and 112.available online. Cycling around the country lanes and villages will
become increasingly dangerous with around 3000 more cars using them. Many will
be trying to access the M1/M6/A14/A5/DIRFT/ Dunchurch/ ugby/M40/Leamington/
Warwick/Southam etc.
If you wish to make an objection you can do so between 26th Sept16 and the closing
date 11thNov16. To Victoria Chapman Town Hall Evreux Way CV21 2RR .Re Draft
Local Plan, Lodge Farm Ref. DS10 Site DS3.15.
Good points to make are site location is unsustainable, cars are required to
access employment, amenities, senior schooling, hospital health care, shopping.
No local employment. Roads unsuitable for cyclists, walkers, air pollution increase
in Dunchurch, loss of 260 acres of farmland and wildlife habitats. Country lanes
made more dangerous with conflicting road users. You should also ask why the
Walsgrave site was removed and ask for it to be reinstated. More information
