Results of 4-Hour Time Trial - 11th September 2011

Phil Scott was a worthy winner in difficult conditions, with strong westerly winds throughout. The entry was disappointing, with many people probably put off by the weather forecast the previous evening, although on the day it was dry and sunny and not as bad as expected. With Craig McKee retiring early with a dead leg the result between the top four riders was clearly very tight and could not be resolved until all the calculations had been completed. Unluckiest rider was guest entry Simon Wix of Evesham Wheelers who was on course for an excellent distance until he punctured with 25 minutes to go. Projecting his distance achieved he would have covered 92 miles. There were good performances from 14 year-old Ryan Kenworthy, edged out on this occasion by his dad by less than half a mile, and from Ray Dyke who managed more than 80 miles despite having to mend a puncture. Having just joined the club Matt Jones's handicap was based on his recent times as a private trialist, while re-joiner Lawrence Webster's handicap was based on the times when he last rode. Our thanks to all the timekeepers who supported the event, helping us man all six stations on the finishing circuit.
